Abstract

Metallic glasses open a new, exciting, and rapidly expanding field of considerable scientific as well as technological interest. This paper reviews the preparation, characterization, structure, formation and the electronic, magnetic, and mechanical properties of metallic glasses. The unique combination of metallic and glassy properties leads to new materials with outstanding mechanical, magnetic and chemical properties, and, combined with their manufacturing and economic advantages, this qualifies them for many applications.
