Abstract
It is possible to reduce the computation time in the numerical integration of N-body gravitational problem by introducing an individual and variable step, but also by recalculating the force which act on a star only when this force has experienced a significant change. To do so, an individual time scale is introduced for each force.
Forces are classified into categories and each category has its own time scale. Time is noted in a numeration system with base b. Stars are also grouped into categories in such a way that, at a given time one knows, without keeping in the computer's memory and without comparing the 1/2N (N − 1) forces which act between the stars, what forces must be recomputed.
