Abstract

We consider a system governed by a family of parabolic equations. The problem is to minimize the diameter of the set of non-admissible states. We give some conditions that ensure that the problem has a solution and show how to approach the original problem by a smooth problem. We give some encouraging numerical results concerning an application of these ideas to the continuous casting problem.
