On the properties of matter in neutron stars

Abstract

A review of recent developments in the description of neutron star matter is presented, and its relevance to pulsar observations is discussed. Some aspects of the accretion of matter on neutron stars are reviewed, and some of the relevant properties of binary X-ray sources are presented. This review is aimed at the astrophysicist. For a detailed review of the nuclear physics involved see H.A.Bethe (1971) in Ann. Rev. Nuc. Sci., Vol. 21.
