Abstract

Long term planning of technical innovations is indispensable for large organizations; it is extremely difficult in a rapidly evolving technical environment. Ada is an important example of a carefully planned technical innovation which has been struggling with unexpected acceptance problems. This paper contains some reflections on these difficulties. Most of the problems encountered may also occur for innovations and improvements in other areas.
