Abstract

This paper consists of two parts; the first part contains the results of work done with Luke Drury on particle acceleration in relativistic shock waves, the details of which will appear elsewhere (Heavens & Drury 1988). The second part summarises the range of spectral indices that have been obtained from this and other calculations of particle acceleration in shock waves.
