Abstract
We give a short review of the attempts to understand the correlation-induced metal insulator transition as described by the Hubbard model within the general frame of critical phenomena. We describe two recent approaches: the first one introduces an effective Hamiltonian to make explicit the mechanisms of various transitions expected for the model, the second one allows for a Monte Carlo simulation of condensed matter systems involving fermionic degrees of freedom, useful for an exploration of the phase diagram of the system.
