Abstract

The possibilities and limits of DSC and DTA for the determination of binary phase diagrams are discussed. The major factors, responsible for the experimentally measured signal shapes and their interpretation are structural relationships of the phases (nucleation) and chemical reaction rates (diffusion). Examples for a variety of signals are given, using several oxide systems.
