Abstract
The animal health sector within the agriculture sector plays a critical role in fulfilling the food demand for billions of the world’s populations by providing safe and nutritional food. The health security of a large human population is also ensured by preventing the spread of zoonotic diseases from animals to humans. If a world must achieve “no hunger” the animal health sector needs a transformation towards enhancing production and productivity. It is also important to meet the increasing global demand for animal-based food products while ensuring sustainability and efficiency. Genetic improvement, nutritional and health management are crucial to harvest the maximum yield from livestock farming. Transforming the animal health sector is essential for ensuring food security, which involves the availability, accessibility, and affordability of safe and nutritious food for all. By focusing on these aspects of the animal health sector transformation, it is possible to enhance food security by producing safe and healthy animal-derived food products. Simultaneously, the promotion of animal health contributes to human health security by reducing the risk of zoonotic diseases, preserving the effectiveness of antimicrobials, and promoting sustainable and resilient agricultural systems.
