Abstract

The effect of delay for several weeks in surgical timing on the healing of the reconstructed ligament is negligible. However, cases with unstable knees left untreated for a prolonged period of time have damage to the menisci and articular cartilage (Figs. 11.1 and 11.2). Therefore, ACL-injured knees should not be left unstable for a long period to preserve the structures inside the joint. In general, surgery should be performed after the range of motion is normalized by aspiration of hemarthrosis and rehabilitation (Fig. 12.1).
