Areas to focus on: causes include dermatologic, hepatic (cholestasis), endocrine (hyperthyroidism and diabetes mellitus), malignant (lymphomas and leukemias), infectious, neurologic or psychiatric, rheumatic diseases (Sjogren, scleroderma and dermatomyositis), as well as allergies, or medications.
