Hip Arthroplasty

Abstract

Revision total hip arthroplasty burden is on the rise worldwide and remains a challenging procedure for hip arthroplasty surgeons. Revision THA cases are always complicated by acetabular or femoral bone loss. Bone loss has to be evaluated in a systematic manner, to help surgeons choose the right prosthesis designs, to ensure construct stability and longevity. Uncemented femoral component revision is the established management option, with several implant designs available. This aim of this chapter is to educate readers on the role of uncemented tapered stems, both non-modular and modular, in revision THA. The chapter covers the important design principles of tapered revision femoral components along with indications and a brief overview of the evidence supporting the use of these stems in revision THA.
