Abstract

This chapter looks at how power systems struggle with renewable energy. It starts with how renewables connect to the power grid and problems with operating them stand-alone or causing power trips. The chapter discusses the global increase of renewable energy, helped by policies like Feed-in Tariffs. It talks about efforts in Europe, especially Germany's Renewable Energy Act, and how it transformed their energy landscape. It also covers Spain's struggles as a leader in predicting energy production. The chapter highlights issues in Japan, like stopping reviews for solar power connections, and the debated practice of forcing wind power plants to shut down. Finally, it talks about the problems caused by relying more on renewable energy, showing the challenges of adding renewables to traditional power systems.
