Abstract
Communication is one of the main aspects which directs the project performance. Even though there are proper channels of communication in various stages of construction and in the organizational structure in all tiers, still there exist certain voids that needed to be filled in. The causes related to communication gap in construction industry are a less explored area, and there are limited studies on it. How this gap can be minimized is discussed here by identifying the prevailing communication issues and factors associated with it and assessing the impact of communication in efficiency of construction process. The study aims to escalate the role of communication among the stakeholders in enhancing the efficiency of construction process. The prevailing communication management issues in construction and the related factors that cause a gap in communication are studied through a review of literature and interviews. Further questionnaire surveys are conducted to quantify its significance level of impact on efficiency of construction. The data collected from questionnaire survey by means of ordinal level of measurement using Likert scale are ranked using relative importance index method. This research can be useful to the professionals who are engaged in the construction field, and they become more aware about the importance of better quality communication in construction process. It helps them to fill the voids by finding out areas where they lack proper communication and take necessary precautionary steps to eradicate the negative impacts of it.

Measuring the impact of the following factors on efficiency of construction
Please select the number that best represent the impact on a scale of 1 to 5
1—Not at all significant, 2—Slightly significant, 3—Moderately significant,
4—Very significant, 5—Strongly significant
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to poor supply chain management?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to ineffective reporting systems where roles and responsibilities are often misallocated and also people are unaware to whom he/she reports or who reports to him/her?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to irregular site meetings being held?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to lack of strategical planning in taking faster onsite decisions?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to misinterpretation of client requirements?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to communication gap between design and material procurement team?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to misinterpretation of drawings by the execution team?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to frequent interpersonal conflicts happening in site?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction if instructions related to safety aspects are not conveyed to the workers and as a result accident occurred?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to low morale in workplace?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction if there is a negligence in adopting the latest advancements in communication technologies?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to communication gap between project design and site execution team?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to improper planning of material procurement?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to lack of proper trained staffs?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction if there is no proper communication plan and necessary information is not conveyed by proper channelization?
How significant will be the impact on efficiency of construction due to hostile working environment?
