This chapter discusses key concepts for developing centers of excellence (CoE) for interprofessional education (IPE) and highlights our experience in developing the center of excellence in interprofessional education (CEIPE) at King Saud University (KSU) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The chapter also identifies basic definitions of IPE and CoE developmental plans including, strategic and action plans along with a plan for the evaluation of novice practice of interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP). The internalization of the IPE philosophy by academicians, policymakers, and other community stakeholders has been emphasized to pave its path in health professional education. Components of IPE like core competencies and interactive team working are mentioned while guidelines are incorporated to develop specific competencies of particular learning modules. Some experts’ opinions and experiences are described to help establish the priority for establishing IPE core competencies and highlight the building up of teams from various related disciplines.

Moreover, the WHO framework on IPE is rationally abridged to articulate how to utilize and assess the suggested standards and why to train IPE learners and master trainers in the field.

Keeping in view that developing a center of excellence for IPE is essential to promote, facilitate, and evaluate IPECP efforts locally and regionally. The guidelines to develop the center of excellence in IPE and the lesson learned in the field are mentioned accordingly.

Finally, we share our millstones in developing the center of excellence in IPE at KSU, addressing needs assessment and their results, developmental strategy, recipes for success, steps of planning and overall approach, governance structure, and operational units of the “center.”
