Abstract

The nature of the insectivoran chorioallantic placenta has been a controversial subject mainly because of the incorrect identification of trophoblast by Hubrecht (1894). He reported it as hemochorial. A more plausible interpretation of the placental nature of the Indian musk shrew, Suncus murinus, was presented by Owers (1960), who described it as endothelio-endothelial.
