Abstract
Nanotechnological approaches based on nanofiltration membrane (NF) have a significant role in wastewater treatment and processing and are innovative tools for a wide range of pollutant removal. The potential outcome represents the NF applicability for water treatment is projected to rise over the world in the future. The rise in population, urbanization of coastal and desert areas, shortage of freshwater sources, rising pollution of freshwater supplies, more reliance on oceans, and worse quality supplies such as brackish groundwater and treated wastewater are all contributing factors. Thus, the key targets are water softening, desalination of brackish waters, and reduction of disinfection by-product (DBP), endocrine disputing compounds (EDC), or precursors by the NF membranes. This chapter discusses the nanofiltration system's role and applicability for treating contaminated water bodies.
