Abstract

Surgical management of penile carcinoma includes management of the primary tumor and the inguinal region. The surgical treatment of primary tumor depends on the location and extension of the lesion. Penile-preserving procedures are considered whenever feasible. Partial penectomy or total penectomy is offered in large growths where organ preservation is not attainable. The management of inguinal region is based on the T stage of primary lesion, laterality, size, and mobility of inguinal nodes if enlarged. A radical inguinal lymph node dissection with or without a pelvic lymph node dissection is recommended for node-positive disease. Palliative chemotherapy and radiotherapy are mainstay in unresectable and metastatic disease.
