A Guide to Management of Urological Cancers

Abstract

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the eighth most common cancer worldwide. Patients are most commonly diagnosed incidentally often undergoing imaging for unrelated complaints, so much so that it is now called as “Radiologist’s tumor”. Imaging such as Ultrasonography, Computed tomography (CT) scan and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) play an integral part in diagnosis of Renal mass. Diagnosis based on symptomatology and imaging helps to stage the disease preoperatively. Staging further helps to decide the best treatment option and also predicts survival outcomes. In this chapter we provide the insight into diagnosis and staging of renal cell carcinoma along with imaging and gross pathological specimen for correlating tumor characteristics.
