Insights into Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head

Abstract

Avascular necrosis of the hip (AVN) is one of the most common hip pathologies majorly affecting the working age population [1]. It is one of the leading indications for total hip arthroplasties all over the world [1–4]. It is important to know the epidemiology and risk factors of this disease so as to identify and diagnose it early, when native joint salvage is possible. The present chapter describes these aspects of AVN.
