Abstract

The remarkable advances of recent medical technology have made it possible to treat diseases that were previously impossible to cure, and the life span of human beings has been extended dramatically. However, many patients still suffer during the course of treatment for incurable diseases, including cancer, while a prolonged treatment period and a serious deterioration in the patient’s quality of life can occur in the process of life extension. For this reason, recently, as interest in “natural dying” has increased, awareness of advance care planning (ACP) is increasing. Here, we discuss ACP and end-of-life care in patients with cancer that is difficult to cure.
