Abstract

Departing from the concept of Blue Geopolitics, we focus on both blue economy and security to reflect on Mozambique’s contemporary geopolitical challenges and development opportunities. Mozambique has been developing a maritime security policy and an MSP and intends to develop the country’s blue economy. Mozambique plays a major role in regional geopolitics and geoeconomics. The control of the Mozambique Channel and the Development Corridors, as well as the offshore energy resources potential, represent new opportunities for the nation’s economy, but also challenges to security. The chapter proposes to reflect on these topics and proposes a political and strategic framework for Mozambique to better manage the tensions arising from these challenges, as well as taking (economic) advantage of the opportunities that are emerging.
