Zusammenfassung

Der Klimawandel ist eines der kritischsten Umweltprobleme, mit denen wir uns auseinandersetzen müssen, und er wird von Tag zu Tag schwerwiegender. In diesem Kapitel wird eine umfassende Literaturübersicht zum Thema der Rolle des Bankensektors und der Finanzinstitutionen bei der Erreichung des Netto-Null-Ziels vorgestellt. Darüber hinaus werden klimawandelbezogene Offenlegungen in der Bankenbranche, verschiedene Netto-Null-Strategien, Initiativen, Wirtschaftsmodelle und Investitionen in fossile Brennstoffe diskutiert. Daten über Investitionen von Banken in verschiedene Sektoren für fossile Brennstoffe wurden von der Website des Rainforest Action Network eingeholt, einer gemeinnützigen Umweltorganisation. Ein Datensatz zu verschiedenen Folgen des Klimawandels wurde von der NASA und dem IWF zusammengestellt. Im Laufe der Identifizierung und Beschreibung der Datenquellen wurde festgestellt, dass es einen Zusammenhang zwischen den Investitionen von Banken in sieben Sektoren fossiler Brennstoffe und den Folgen des Klimawandels gibt. JPMorgan Chase hat sich als die Bank herausgestellt, die am meisten in den gesamten Sektor für fossile Brennstoffe investiert. Im Vergleich dazu hat die State Bank of India in drei Sektoren für fossile Brennstoffe nicht investiert – Teersande, Fracking-Öl und -Gas und LNG.
