Abstract

Since the discovery of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), H. pylori eradication has dramatically lowered the recurrence rate of peptic ulcer disease (PUD). Combining H. pylori eradication with gastric acid inhibition accelerates ulcer healing compared to gastric acid inhibition alone. Moreover, H. pylori eradication prevents various PUD complications, such as bleeding, perforation, and obstruction. Therefore, for PUD patients with H. pylori infection, H. pylori eradication has become the standard care of treatment ensuring improved outcomes including ulcer healing and prevention of recurrence and complications.
