Abstract
Formally created on May 27, 1909, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has since celebrated the passage of a century. The IISc has had many interesting events and memorable moments during its long and extraordinary odyssey.
This chapter is based on the convocation address delivered by K. Kasturirangan at the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore in March of 2014. K Kasturirangan has delivered many convocation lectures addressing the youth of the country in different prominent Institutions all over the nation. He has shared his thoughts on education and research on one side and opportunities, challenges, and excitements on the other in his talk. The scientific and technological challenges for youth are aptly conveyed in this lecture. The S&T developments highlighted in this chapter are those from 2014; hence, they do not include subsequent developments.
