Abstract

Today, Industry 4.0 and sustainable supply chain management are two of the most extensively focused concepts by both academics and practitioners all over the globe. On the one hand, the rapid technological advancement in Industry 4.0 has brought new opportunities for achieving a highly connected, intelligent, responsive, and customer-focused manufacturing process that enables new business models for value creation. On the other hand, the increased emphasis on sustainable development and circular economy has required companies to become more environmentally conscious and socially responsible on their supply chain planning and operations. In this paper, we discussed the opportunities for improving sustainable supply chain management with the key enabling technologies of Industry 4.0. The results show the adoption of new technologies across a supply chain may improve the economic, environmental and social sustainability of different activities. Moreover, recommendations for future research are also given in order to better investigate the connection between the two concepts.
