Abstract
Shock is a clinical emergency that is characterized by reduced or impaired perfusion at the cellular level. Shock is of multiple types based on the etiology, the common ones being hypovolemic, distributive, cardiogenic, and obstructive. Although the management of each type of shock is unique, there are a few common priorities of management, the most important of which is fluid management. This chapter details the management of shock, along with characteristics of the different types of fluid replacement options available. In addition, the chapter also explains the drugs that are used during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
