Abstract

Nutritional deficiencies are extremely common after bariatric surgery. If left untreated, these deficiencies can manifest as systemic complications, some of which may be irreversible.

A knowledge of the common as well as rare nutritional deficiencies is important to prevent morbidity and catastrophic complications. An understanding of the pathophysiology of the deficiencies helps in early detection as well as proper procedure selection for individual patients.

In this chapter, we will summarise the nutritional deficiencies and their pathophysiology after bariatric surgery, their manifestation, prevention, workup and treatment.
