Abstract
This chapter explores India’s interests, approach and policy towards multilateralism in general and Asian multilateral organizations in particular. It discusses how the Look East and Act East policies gradually promoted engagement with and membership of various Asian regional organizations. It examines Indian as well as European/EU interests, and main achievements in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the East Asia Summit (EAS), the Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM), the Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), the Mekong Cooperation, and the Asian Regional Forum. In conclusion, the author discusses the major challenges and opportunities in Indian and European engagement in Asian multilateral organizations.
