Abstract

The relationship between a river and man should be investigated from the perspective of historical geography. The investigation can reveal both experience and lessons. Most peoples of the world have legends about floods. These legends reflect the respect of ancient people for floods. Ancient people could not survive without a river, but they also feared that too much water like floods might lead to destruction of life and civilization.
