Abstract
This chapter presents the first ever taxonomic inventory of ant species recorded from the Jammu and Kashmir State. The inventory is based on relevant scientific literature and museum collections, combined with data obtained from the field surveys since 2008. In total, there are 198 ant taxa (species and subspecies) representing 54 genera in 7 subfamilies recorded from Jammu and Kashmir. Looking ahead, the study clearly highlights that much research efforts are required to document the unknown ant diversity of this Himalayan region.
