An Interactive Video-Based Learning Environment Supporting Learning Analytics: Insights Obtained from Analyzing Learner Activity Data

Online videos are extensively used in education, and a recent trend is the integration of interactive elements and Web content into educational videos. This paper describes in brief how open source tools can be used for developing learning environments where video content is aggregated with interactive elements, educator content, and content coming from open Internet resources. It also describes how such tools can be used for capturing and storing learner activity data which can then be used for data analysis and data mining purposes. Finally, the paper presents insights obtained from analyzing learner activity data, gathered over a semester period.
