Abstract

This chapter examines how assessment is used as the focal task for teacher learning during the Dinggang internship. It explores what participant pre-service teachers could learn from observing and participating in the daily assessment practices modeled by Green Middle School (GMS) teachers. It features two cases of pre-service teachers who learned to teach either to the test or with assessment. Although the pre-service teachers in both examples focused on tests and learned to implement assessment practices, their use of the tests developed in very different directions.
