Abstract

Event Tourism has gained more recognition over the years for its economic, social, environmental and cultural potential and importance for local development of destinations. Studies on this subject are often carried out only considering the economic dimension, which is insufficient to understand the total dimension that Event Tourism has. Moreover, studies on this topic are mainly focused on demand side and the importance of event’s organization to attract tourists to destinations. However, event tourism impacts destinations and communities. Therefore, this chapter aims to understand the perception of residents about the importance of the Event’s Organization for local development of the territory. The research is supported by a qualitative analysis, using interviews with entities belonging to diverse tourism subsectors that integrate the value chain of the sector in the territory. The city of Águeda is recognized internationally and nationally for events’ organization and for its cultural and industrial dynamics and innovation. Since the beginning of the Event Organization in the region, Águeda has been a growth in the tourist and economic dimensions, as well as in the local development. The results show that residents consider the Event Organization extremely important for the municipality of Águeda, presenting many positive impacts. It was also concluded that the Event’s Organization was one of the main drivers of the economic, cultural, social and tourism development of the territory.
