Abstract
Various surgical methods are being applied, from open laminectomy to endoscopic surgery, for the surgical treatment of degenerative spinal diseases. Minimally invasive spine surgery aims to preserve the bone and muscle structures of the spine as much as possible and to remove only the offending lesions. Spinal surgery using a tubular retractor and microscope is currently the most commonly used surgical method for decompression in spinal diseases. In this chapter, microdiscectomy and unilateral bilateral decompressive surgery using interlaminar and paraspinal approaches of the lumbar spine are discussed.
