Abstract
Full endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion is a technique to gain access to lumbar interbody disc space, prepare endplate, and introduce interbody cage in order to achieve bony union of two lumbar segments using uniportal endoscope and its related equipment. Full endoscopic fusion is the pinnacle of benefit zone of endoscopic surgery, it achieves the objective of interbody fusion with minimal soft tissue damages. It can be done as an ambulatory procedure under local anesthesia and sedation in some selected cases. The primary aims of endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion are similar to open lumbar interbody fusion: (1) decompression of neural elements through direct or indirect means; (2) stabilize the lumbar spinal segment; (3) correction of malalignment and improve lumbar segmental lordosis; (4) interbody fusion. In this chapter, we highlight the steps required to perform uniportal full endoscopic, facet sacrificing posterolateral transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion.
