Abstract
Ocean technology developments in India commenced quite late compared to many developed countries. This has resulted in India struggling in the last two decades to make up for the time delay. The activities taken up in India in this area are enumerated in this article. The non-living resources and their method of utilization, along with the challenges are briefly indicated. The details of ocean energy, desalination, minerals which form the main resource are explained. The technology developments on living resources are vast and only a brief on cage culturing is touched upon here. Various platforms including ships and other ocean observation systems to provide data for weather prediction, climate change studies and tsunami warning are briefly touched upon.
