Abstract
In order to minimize the cost of utility companies, this chapter develops an algorithm for relay allocation and power allocation for data aggregator units (DAU) in a centralized manner. On the demand side of the smart grid, a cooperative communication network of multiple DAUs assisted by multiple relays was deployed, and the relay assignment and power allocation problem was expressed as a non-linear programming problem. Using the penalty function method, we transformed the constrained nonlinear programming problem into an unconstrained optimization problem. Then we developed a multi-swarm artificial bee colony (MS-ABC) algorithm with cooperative learning to search for the optimum. Simulation results indicate that the optimal relay assignment and power allocation can reduce the cost to the utility company. Moreover, the MS-ABC algorithm shows good performances and search ability.
