Abstract

This chapter discusses the principle of reconfigurability and various types of reconfiguration techniques existing in modern antenna technologies. Reconfigurable antennas can be categorized based on the antenna characteristics typically the frequency, radiation pattern, and polarization. This chapter discusses various techniques that are used to reconfigure the antenna characteristic for different wireless applications. The advantages and disadvantages of different reconfiguration techniques are next presented. The usage of each category of reconfigurable antennas in current and future wireless systems is finally discussed in this chapter.
