Abstract

Uterine contractions in pregnant women can either start spontaneously or be induced artificially. Factors influencing onset and progress of labour in pregnant women are complex, controversial and not uniform in all women in all clinical settings. Artificial stimulation of uterine contractions to accomplish delivery prior to the onset of spontaneous contractions is referred to as induction of labour (IOL).
