Abstract

Oncomelania spp. is often referred to as the intermediate host snail of Schistosoma japonicum. Oncomelania hupensis belongs to polytypic species, and several sub-species of O. hupensis are known to transmit S. japonicum in China. Adult O. hupensis is a small and amphibious snail able to survive for prolonged periods out of water, whereas young or baby snail could not.
