Abstract
With improved results of drug-eluting stents (DES), stentless PCI is an option only in a limited number of patients. These include patients for release of ischemia before surgical treatment, patients who require concomitant anticoagulants for atrial fibrillation, and younger patients who want to avoid stenting. Conventional balloon therapy alone is associated with a high rate of restenosis, but use of drug-coated balloons (DCBs) has improved results and indication is expanding. Because of the risk of acute coronary occlusion with stentless PCI, endpoint determination using intravascular imaging is safer.
