Abstract
Radionuclides produced by the medical cyclotron are becoming popular for molecular imaging in nuclear medicine (NM) facilities. The important clinical information provided by this modality (NM) is superior to the other imaging modalities. Several hospitals like to have medical cyclotron in their nuclear medicine facility. Since radionuclides produced by the medical cyclotron have energy higher than other radionuclides used in nuclear medicine facilities for diagnosis, the user should be aware of the regulatory and administrative requirements and aspects of radiation safety before installing of medical cyclotron in their institution. Generally, medical cyclotrons are of two types, unshielded and self-shielded. Therefore, one should know and follow the important steps for planning and design of these facilities.
