Abstract

The first generation of rare earth permanent magnets represented by SmCo5 appeared in the 1960s. The second generation of 2:17-type samarium-cobalt rare earth permanent magnets represented by Sm(Co, Cu, Fe, Zr)z (zā€‰=ā€‰6ā€“8) appeared in the 1970s. The third generation of rare earth permanent magnets represented by neodymium-iron-boron (Nd-Fe-B) was developed in the early 1980s. These magnetic materials are now broadly applied around the world.
