Abstract

A key difficulty in exploring the origins of Chinese civilization lies in verifying the history of the Xia Dynasty. Studies of the Yu, Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties by modern Chinese scholars have gone through two stages of development: one of doubt and one of interpretation.
