Abstract
Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disorder which is characterized by reduction in the bone density. Osteoporosis is called as “the silent killer” and often diagnosed after the development of fracture because it itself has no overt clinical symptoms. However, osteoporosis must not be neglected since osteoporotic fractures have enormous impacts on patients as well as the whole society. Osteoporotic fracture is the most serious clinical outcome of osteoporosis, and it is more common in women than in men, due to decreased bone mineral density (BMD) after menopause. Thus, active prevention including early diagnosis and proper treatment is crucial in the management of patients with osteoporosis. This chapter includes clinically relevant cases performed by nuclear imaging (bone scan, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT) and other correlative radiologic images for the diagnosis of the vertebral compression fracture, sacral insufficiency fracture, atypical femoral fracture, and medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) in patients with osteoporosis.
