Abstract

China has abundant shale gas resources potential, in which deep shale gas accounts for 80% of the total resources. In the future, shale gas, especially deep shale gas, will be an important domain of natural gas production increment in China. Under the current exploration and development technologies and the national financial subsidy policy, the medium-shallow shale gas in southern Sichuan Basin has achieved large-scale and beneficial development, but there are disputes on the large-scale and beneficial development pathway, new project investment decision-making and reasonable development mode of deep shale gas. Therefore, based on the analysis of the development cost of typical wells in developed shale gas fields in China, several key technical and economic issues of shale gas development are analyzed from the aspects of comprehensive investment limit of single well, economic evaluation index system of new projects and different production proration modes by using net cash flow method. According to the main factors affecting shale gas development benefit, such as single well investment, final cumulative gas production (EUR) and production proration mode, the investment index system is established, which can provide an important basis for shale gas investment decision-making.
