Abstract

Magnetorheological fluid is a smart type fluid material that changes its viscosity abruptly on the application of an external magnetic field. Quick response and accurate controllability are its main advantages. Thus it is being actively employed in many profound applications of haptics, dampers and clutches, etc. At present major work is put on research to extend its applications in the field of automotive brakes. Many papers were published, and lots of work is done to investigate its usability and develop a design of MR brake. Agile research in this field is also ongoing to improve and optimise brake designs. Our work is one such attempt. In this work, analysis was carried out by mainly varying the geometric parameters of the disc of a conventional disc type magnetorheological brake to study its effect on the braking torque obtained. COMSOL Multiphysics software was used for the analysis, and magnetic analysis of magnetorheological brake using the same was also discussed.
