Abstract

At the end of the last century, with the development of stomatology and related disciplines and the improvement of people’s living standards, composite resins and ceramic materials were gradually used in clinical practice replacing amalgam as restorative materials. As the composite resins, ceramics, CAD/CAM, and bonding technologies continuously advance, the application of posterior indirect adhesive restorations (PIAR) such as inlay is becoming more and more common. The development trends of PIAR are as follows: (1) Tooth color materials are gradually replacing traditional metal materials. (2) The improvements of material expand the indications for those restorations. (3) The application of impression technology and digital technology enables PIAR to be more accurate and preserve more tooth structure.
