Abstract
Focusing on sustainable development all over the world has made the issues of sustainability of global economic components and sustainable innovation an international concern. The “sustainable aviation” leg is added to these concerns, with the realization that the air transport industry has serious negative impacts on the environment. The aim of this study is to reveal the importance of the technological steps taken in the fight against climate change within the framework of sustainable aviation. Patent data was used as a technology development indicator to measure the success of political action. According to technology development indicators, a total of 40,523 technological patents have been obtained by the air transport industry for climate change mitigation since 1987, the most patents have been obtained in the efficient propulsion technologies category, and the country with the highest number of patents is the United States.
